An avid yachtsman for the past quarter-century, the year old Bernhard has become one of America's more successful skippers. Additional Files. Bernhard resumed his career in law and politics, serving as national finance chairman for the and re-election campaigns of Ernest "Fritz" Hollings, as well as chairman of The Aspen Institute for five years beginning in Edmund Muskie's speechwriter and four years later assumed the responsibility of running Muskie's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

At present, Bernhard serves on the board of trustees at Dartmouth and is on the board of Democrats for the '80's, a political action committee begun by the Honorable and Mrs. Media is loading. He served as national campaign manager for Senator Muskie's presidential campaign, accompanying the Muskie on his trips to Israel and the Soviet Union.
